Lilith in the Garden by Tamara Safarova

“Lilith in the Garden” is a collaborative photographic series exploring femininity through Lilith, a powerful, independent, sensual woman. The project asserts a woman’s right to be herself — complex, unapologetic, and free from judgment or imposed limits.

The myth of Lilith, the first woman who refused to submit and chose exile (thus becoming the first sinner), informs the work. For an author, Lilith embodies female power, queerness, and the right to inhabit one’s body and desires without shame. The project is deeply personal, rooted in the author’s journey of self-acceptance, bodily awareness, and identity.

Sovereignty is the central point of the project: both personal and collective. The author sees women’s sovereignty as inseparable from the sovereignty of the state — both demand autonomy, dignity, and self-determination.

Lilith is placed back in Eden, reflective, playful, self-possessed, reclaiming her narrative as a figure of resistance.
